Portuguese Water Dog

The Portuguese Water Dog is a breed of dog and it is a working dog. This dog is different according to the appearance. We will talk about the appearance of the dog later. This dog is from Portugal and in Portugal, the dog is called by several names C?o de água Português and C?o de água Algarvio. The nick names of the dog are Portie, PWD, Water Dog. Many people like this breed of dog and all major kennel club recognized this breed of dog and those major kennel clubs are American kennel club, Canadian kennel club, New Zealand Kennel Club, Australian National Kennel Council and Fédération Cynologique Internationale. This dog is recorded as a utility, gun dog and working breed of dog.
The dog is fully covered by the hair and attraction of the dog is hair. The coat of the dog is curly or wavy. Many dogs has a curly coat but only this dog has curly tail and ears. That is why the dog has become unique. Sometimes, the hair of the coat has covered the eyes of a dog. The size of the dog is a very important thing and it depends on the se of the dog. The weight and height of the dog are different. The weight of the male dog is from 19 to 27 kg and the weight of the female dog is from 16 to 23 kg. The height of the male dog is from 50 to 57 cm and the female dog is from 43 to 52 cm.
This dog can be infected by the general diseases. Otherwise, the dog is a healthy breed of dog. Some genetic problems are found in this breed and Hip dysplasia, Cataracts, PRA, and distichiasis, Juvenile Dilated Cardiomyopathy etc. are a common problem in this breed of dog. If the dog gets treatment on time, then it is very easy to become healthy. The owner should give attention on the breed for keeping the dog healthy always.
The temperaments of the dog are impetuous, obedient, quarrelsome, docile, brave and Intelligent. This dog is a fully perfect breed of dog and attractive due to the temperaments. The dog likes to get training and do exercise but sometime the dog is found to do stubbornly. Grooming is a necessary part of every breed of dog and if the dog gets brush often, then the dog remains clean and attractive. Grooming is the vital matter for a healthy dog.
